SEAT 20v20 Concept Car

The Perfect Blend of Style and Passion

The SEAT 20V20 concept car is the ideal expression of the evolution of SEAT’s design language. It’s the perfect vision of unmatched performance, versatility and power. And combines the dynamic silhouette of a four-door sports coupĂ© with the refinement and versatility of an SUV.

Exterior Design
The muscular exterior emulates an athletic figure with precise detailing and refined lines to create a perfect profile. Every single exterior design element works together to create a phenomenal sculptured figure with a great depth of passion.
The 20V20 has been designed to strict dynamic proportions. 20-inch wheels are supported by a long 2791 mm wheelbase and supported by a 1648 mm wide track in the front with 1638 mm in the rear, all brought together by a taut straight roofline.
The front end of the 20V20 features the X-shape as a fundamental design element. The V-shape of the bonnet and the grille embody dynamic performance and forward momentum. The inverted V shaped front bumper conveys firm road presence, exuding stability and robustness. The full-LED headlamps also convey a distinctive character, their focus appears distant, their expression determined and powerful.

The rear design also picks up the X reference. The lines are more subtle, as expressed by the deep tailgate and the strong rear bumper. The rear lights possess the characteristic triangular form used in a number of the 20V20’s design details.

Interior Design

The combination of sports performance, relaxed refinement and precision is also evident in the interior. Low dynamic lines offer a generous amount of space whilst maintaining the pleasant feeling of solidity and safety one looks for in an SUV.
The dominant materials of leather, aluminium, glass and high-gloss trims are of exceptionally high quality and crafted with enormous attention to detail. Everything feels safe and secure – yet, at the same time, airy and lightweight.
With a boot of more than 600 litres of space, there’s plenty of room for luggage and anything else you need to transport. Rear seat passengers can relax thanks to the long wheelbase and clever packaging, while the variable layout of the rear seat bench means that the it can be used as either a four or a five-seater.

Technology
The innovative use of information and communication technologies give the 20V20 an intelligence befitting its revolutionary design. The SEAT Personal Drive Device acts as the operating interface inside the car, and seamlessly integrates connectivity and technology with a sporty and versatile design. Outside the vehicle, the Drive Device functions as a mobile navigation system, as well as a remote control for functions such as stationary heating or cooling and for managing the charging process on a plug-in hybrid model.
The SEAT 20V20 is an extremely dynamic SUV that possesses a compelling degree of utility and all kinds of drive options. The TSI drives up to around 220kW / 300 PS and the TDI 176 kW / 240 PS, both powerful as they are efficient, with the option for plug-in hybrid and electric only driving.
SEAT is a perfectionist in its demands and passionate in its expression, the 20V20 is the embodiment of both of these ideals.

Volkswagen to build 7 million MQB cars by 2018

Volkswagen confirms its intention to make and sell more than seven-million MQB-based cars by 2018. It currently manufactures two million MQB models each year, with plans to make more than triple it's output by the end of the decade.

The MQB platform – which underpins a variety of cars across the Volkswagen Group – is set to expand over the coming years, with an increasing number of variants using the scalable product architecture.

Currently, everything from the Mk7 VW Golf to the new Audi TT uses MQB, with plans for smaller cars such as the next Polo – as well as bigger models like the US-only Volkswagen CrossBlue SUV – set to join the line-up soon. We also learnt that the all-new seven seat Touran will also use an MQB setup when it goes on sale later this year.

By using the versatile and flexible chassis, Volkswagen can dramatically reduce costs and introduce big car features into more mainstream models. As a result, the new Touran isn’t expected to cost any more than the current car – despite being offered with kit such as Apple CarPlay, more efficient engines and a new modular infotainment system.
Dr Heinz-Jacob Neusser, board member for VW R&D, said: “Without MQB it’s not possible for us to keep the price constant from the previous one, while putting more technology inside the car. We call it the MQB effect.
“This is what we said when we started with the new Golf. Wait some time and MQB will bring the costs down. The platform is everything – it’s steering, it’s braking, the powertrains – all these things are platform.”
In fact, the adaptability of the MQB chassis also helps meet varying market demand and cut model waiting lists. Due to the relative simplicity of the setup, any one VW Group factory can shut down its Golf production in favour of TT, or switch from Touran to Octavia– almost overnight.

It reduces import and export costs, too – with all MQB-equipped factories capable of making each different MQB model. VW’s European plants, for example, have the ability to produce exactly the same cars as the group’s Chinese factories – and vice versa – reducing the need to ship individual models thousands of miles across the globe.
The plans to reach seven million cars by 2018 may sound ambitious, but as more models come to the end of their lifecycle and adopt MQB for their next iteration, Volkswagen will need to ramp up production around the world. Across VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT, the company already intends to piece together four million MQB-based models annually by the end of 2016.

Our fabulous new estate car tops category in prestigious UK  Car of the Year Awards

The new Volkswagen Passat Estate, which went on sale in the UK in January, has been named Estate Car of the Year in the UK Car of the Year Awards 2015.

Voted for by a panel of 27 professional motoring journalists, the UK Car of the Year Awards recognise the best new cars on the market for UK customers, which are test driven and judged on UK roads.

In assessing the Passat Estate, the judges were impressed by the car’s quality, prestige, space and value for money.  John Challen, Managing Director of UK Car of the Year Awards, said: “The ultimate estate just happens to also be a car that is comfortable, great to drive and a very pleasant place to be.”

Towcar expert and motoring journalist David Motton added: “With sharp new styling and a huge 650-litre boot, you can't buy a better estate than the Passat for sensible money.  It's spacious, economical and rivals the prestige German brands for interior quality.”

The new Passat has been named Europe's Car of the Year 2015!

Car of the Year is one of the oldest and best-known automotive awards in Europe, honouring the best new releases in the car industry every year since 1964. Two current Volkswagen models have received the award in the past – the Polo in 2010 and the Golf in 2013.

“We are extremely proud of this accolade,” said Prof. Martin Winterkorn, CEO of Volkswagen, at the prize-giving ceremony in Geneva. “In the new Passat, we have again succeeded in developing a car that sets the standards for its class in terms of technology and quality. This honour is a tremendous confirmation for the work of our engineers, designers and the entire team. The new Passat shows that the Volkswagen brand has the right answers to the challenges of our time.”

A jury of 58 European motoring journalists from 22 countries nominated seven candidate cars ahead of the final. The finalists underwent detailed testing, comparisons and evaluations against criteria such as economy, comfort, safety, driving characteristics, functionality, design and technical progress. The new Passat triumphed over its rivals with a total score of 340 points.

Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for the Development Division, added: “We are delighted by the honour of Car of the Year 2015. This accolade has a very special significance for us because it is awarded by independent international trade journalists. In addition, the honour is known to have a high standing for our customers.”

Over the years, the Passat has been one of the most successful mid-class cars in the world and, with 1.1 million units (in 2014) one of the highest-volume series of the Volkswagen Group worldwide. The eighth generation model is regarded as one of the most innovative cars in its class.

Using advanced engineering methods, Volkswagen has created a significantly more dynamic design, including a lower body, longer wheelbase and larger wheels. Although the interior length has not changed, the new Passat has more space than its predecessor.

A host of great new technologies have been added, including Active Info Display (a completely digital instrument cluster), extendable head-up display, and systems such as an app-based Rear Seat Entertainment for tablets, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring. The new Passat also features three world firsts: Emergency Assist (vehicle stops in emergency), Trailer Assist (assisted manoeuvering with a trailer) and Traffic Jam Assist.

Great things come in small packages! Volkswagen Polo GTI goes on sale

Great things come in small packages: Volkswagen Polo GTI goes on sale

Great things come in small packages: Volkswagen Polo GTI goes on sale

The latest generation of Volkswagen’s Polo GTI made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October and is now available to order from Retailers across the UK, with first customer deliveries due in March 2015.

The new Polo GTI is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 192 PS between 4,200 and 6,200 rpm (5,400-6,200 DSG), marking an increase of 12 PS over the outgoing model.  And unlike the previous Polo GTI, this latest generation is available with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The Polo GTI lives up to its performance badge, reaching 62 mph from standstill in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 146 mph.

But the Polo GTI’s power does not come at the expense of efficiency, with a combined fuel consumption figure of 50.4 mpg and corresponding carbon dioxide emissions of 129 g/km for the DSG.
The Polo GTI follows the design cues of its ‘big brother’, the Golf GTI.  Compared with the standard Polo, new bumpers, GTI insignia, distinctive 17-inch ‘Parabolica’ alloy wheels and red radiator grille strips and honeycomb grille distinguish it from the rest of the range, along with standard sports suspension (lowered by 10 mm at the front and 15 mm at the back).

At the front, LED lights are standard for the first time, while at the rear a GTI roof spoiler, taillight clusters in Dark Red, the black grained diffuser and chrome dual exhaust pipes continue the sporty theme.

On the inside, the Polo GTI features a leather sports steering wheel with logo and red stitching harking back to the Golf GTI, as do the gear and handbrake levers and floor mats with red beading.  The check design ‘Clark’ cloth seats with black bolsters have been a GTI emblem since the first GTI in 1976.

The Polo GTI has ESC Sport (electronic stability control).  Like on the Golf GTI this enables the ESC to be adapted for use on a track.  It works in two stages: first the traction control is switched off, then ESC Sport is activated which raises the ESC threshold and delays intervention (without ESC being completely deactivated).

Available as an option on the new Polo GTI is a Sport Performance Pack with Dynamic Chassis Control which offers sportier steering, accelerator response and engine noise inside the car.
