Volkswagen successfully defend WRC title!

Volkswagen successfully defend WRC title!

Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia have claimed the World Rally Championship title after victory at the Rally Spain.

The win – the pair’s seventh of the season – leaves them with an unassailable 31-point lead in the
drivers’ and co-drivers’ standings going into the final event, Rally Great Britain. It was also Volkswagen’s 11th win in the 12 events this season, equalling Citroën's previous two best results – 11 out of 16 rallies in 2005 and 11 out of 15 in 2008.

Volkswagen team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila took second place in Spain to clinch the tenth one-two victory for Volkswagen in the WRC. Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Fløene finished seventh in Spain, guaranteeing them at least third place in the championship.

Ogier said: “It's a fantastic feeling to become world champion for a second time! I'm over the moon – it was a real battle to defend the title. Jari-Matti Latvala showed an incredibly strong performance in the last few months.

“Big thanks go to our fantastic team at Volkswagen. Not just for giving us a fantastic car throughout the season but also for the unique solidarity that we have. It doesn't matter whether things are going well or badly – the team stands by every driver crew and that is extremely motivating. I'm happy and proud to be part of this team.”

Ogier and Ingrassia are only the fourth duo since 1977 to successfully defend the title and are now the eighth team to become double world champions.

SEAT celebrates 5 millionth Ibiza

SEAT’s Martorell plant in Barcelona, Spain, is celebrating the production of the 5 millionth Ibiza. The Spanish Brand reached the milestone on the iconic model’s 30th anniversary.

This week SEAT will celebrate the 30 anniversary of its iconic Ibiza at the Paris Motor Show, which is where the first-ever Ibiza was unveiled to the world three decades ago. The Spanish Brand will also unveil the Leon X-PERIENCE, the brand’s most adventurous version of its compact car.

Since its launch in 1984, the SEAT Ibiza has become the best-selling and most-exported Spanish passenger car. Seventy per cent of those 5 million cars (about 3.5 million) have been sold outside Spain in more than 75 countries where the company has a presence. Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Mexico have proved to be the most important markets for the best-selling car in SEAT’s history.

Esther García Castellanos, a member of the SEAT Ibiza production team for more than a decade, said: “SEAT has always been a part of my life. My father was an employee at the SEAT plant in the Zona Franca, and this is the company that has given me the opportunity to get ahead in my career. I have always worked on the Ibiza production line. For me, reaching the figure of 5 million cars produced is the result of the passion we put in every day, the motivation of the personnel and positive proof of a job well done”.

Did you know that...?

  • 700 SEAT Ibiza leave the Martorell plant every day
  • It employs around 1,600 people
  • Around 700 robots contribute to the success of the SEAT Ibiza
  • An Ibiza covers around 12km during its production process
  • Five million Ibiza models placed end-to-end would stretch almost 19,300 km, the distance between Martorell in Spain and Auckland in New Zealand
  • The five million Ibizas have consumed a total of 70 million kilograms of paint
  • The Ibiza with female touches:
    • The first SEAT to open the door to women on the production line
    • Women account for 21 per cent of the production line
    • Two pop icons, Shakira and Katy Perry, have provided the music for the best-selling car’s advertising spots
  • The approximate price of the Ibiza in 1984 was 825,000 pesetas (4,950€). This is the equivalent of 15,620€ at today’s prices
  • The SEAT Ibiza was the official car at the Barcelona Olympic Games 1992

New Polo infotainment system - better than the Golf 7?

The new Polo infortainment system is faster, more responsive and better connectivity than Golf 7 system.

The new Polo features a brand new infotainment system, which is a step up from the MIB system originally launched on Golf 7.

The colour touchscreen of the Composition Media system in the Polo is 0.7 inches larger than the one supplied with the Golf. The Polo’s system also has faster processing times and a more responsive user interface.

Bluetooth connectivity in particular has improved significantly. New Polo enables Bluetooth audio streaming when connected with compatible Android or Apple devices. You can view album, artist, and track listings, see track titles and control track selection via the multifunction steering wheel from SE trim.

With Bluetooth hands-free telephony, the Composition Media and Discover Navigation systems on new Polo feature a new SMS function which allows customers to read, compose and send text messages using the 6.5 inch touchscreen, when paired with compatible Android phones. This feature includes convenient SMS templates for quick responses such as ‘On my way’, and the Polo reads received SMS messages out loud for greater ease of use.

Voice Activation is offered on new Polo as part of the focus on convenience and customer safety. Spoken voice commands for telephone and navigation functions help ensure that eyes are on the road at all times. This feature is a £185 option from SE trim and above.

There are two levels of USB connection on new Polo. The S (A/C) trim offers audio playback from a USB stick and also charges devices when connected with the correct charging cable.

From SE trim and above, with the Composition Media system (or optional Discover Navigation system), the USB port connects with audio devices and mobiles phones, including Apple products, to allow track listings, track titles and track selection via the car controls.

Sunderland car dealer motors off with ‘Garage of the Year’ gong

Sunderland car dealer motors off with ‘Garage of the Year’ gong

/Dealership voted one of 20 most trusted UK garages
/Pulman SEAT is focused on offering first-class customer service
/Motor Codes’ online garage finder holds over 230,000 online reviews

Leading car retailer Pulman SEAT is celebrating being named as the most trusted main dealer in the North East.

The dealership in Burntland Avenue, Southwick, Sunderland, has been voted the region’s Motor Codes ‘Garage of the Year’.

Chris Slater, Site Manager at Pulman SEAT, said: “This is great news. At Pulman SEAT we are focused on delivering a fantastic customer experience to all our customers so we are thrilled that they have recognised this by voting for us as their number one garage.”

Pulman SEAT was also named as the young-spirited carmaker’s ‘Dealer of the Year’ in January last year for the second year running, even though it had only been trading for two-and-a-half years at the time.

The Motor Codes ‘top 20’ regional Garage of the Year winners are made up of 10 franchised main dealers and 10 independent garages, as nominated by customers of its 8,000-strong garage network.

The garages which made the shortlist – people’s favourite 10 main dealers and 10 independent garages – topped their regions following a month-long competition that generated more than 13,000 online reviews from garage customers.

Motor Codes’ online garage finder holds over 230,000 online reviews and it is this customer feedback that helps direct people to approved garages rather than unscrupulous traders.

Chris Mason, managing director of Motor Codes, sees Garage of the Year as a way of promoting those garages that consistently provide excellent customer service.

He said: “Everybody shops online these days and it’s no different when it comes to looking for a trustworthy garage. By putting themselves in the spotlight and being open to review, Motor Codes garages are helping to boost confidence. People can now make an informed decision about who to trust when it comes to spending on car servicing.”

Motor Codes is the government-backed, self-regulatory body for the motor industry. Its voluntary membership of thousands of garages is committed to maintaining high standards throughout the new car sales process, administration of new car warranties and car service and repair.

SEAT is the only company in its sector with the full-range capacity to design, develop, manufacture and market cars in Spain. A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters in Martorell (Barcelona), exporting 83% of its vehicles, and is present in 77 countries. In 2012 SEAT had a total turnover of more than 6 billion euros, with overall deliveries amounting to 321,000 units.

SEAT Group employs 14,000 professionals at its three production centres in Barcelona − Zona Franca, El Prat de Llobregat and Martorell, where it manufactures the highly successful Ibiza and Leon, amongst other models. Additionally, the company produces the Alhambra in Palmela (Portugal), the Mii in Bratislava (Slovakia) and the Toledo in Mladá Boleslav (Czech Republic) at Volkswagen Group plants.

The Spanish multinational also has a Technical Center, a ‘knowledge hub’, bringing together more than 900 engineers whose goal is to be the driving force behind innovation for the number one industrial investor in R&D in Spain. In line with its declared commitment to environmental protection, SEAT undertakes and bases its core activity on sustainability, namely reduction of CO2 emissions, energy efficiency, as well as recycling and re-use of resources.

SEAT UK enjoyed a tremendous year in 2013, selling 45,312 cars and achieving a 2.0% market share – both company records.

Pulman Volkswagen helps Cash for Kids raise over £22,000

Politeness Pays!

One lucky winner scooped the top prize of a brand new Volkswagen Take Up! Car in Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids recent campaign and all because she said “Thank You!”

The Mission Thank you Campaign, led by Cash for Kids, gave local people and companies the opportunity to publically thank their friends, family, neighbours and customers and by doing so, were entered into a raffle to win a fabulous new Volkswagen Take Up! car, donated by Pulman Volkswagen.

The campaign was to remind people of just how important it is to say ‘thank you’.  On average, people hear a spoken ‘thank you’ 5-10 times a day, and over 60% of people believe that receiving a ‘thank you’ brightens up their day. Over 40% of people think that as a nation, we don’t say ‘thank you’ enough, and the goal of Mission Thank You was to reverse this trend.

The Cash for Kids and radio team including presenters Steve and Karen, Brian Moore and Stu Elmore toured the region displaying random acts of kindness, giving gifts to members of the public and completing a fundraising bag pack at Asda, Metrocentre. Members of the public entered into the spirit by paying a £1 donation and sending a thank you message to someone who deserved it.

SEAT CONFIRMS IT WILL PRODUCE ITS FIRST EVER SUV

Much-anticipated SEAT SUV will come to market in 2016

SEAT has today confirmed that it will produce a new compact SUV model, which will come to market in 2016. The Spanish company has been working on the design and development of the new model at its Martorell facility for almost two years.
“This is an excellent piece of news, since it takes SEAT into a new territory, in one of the largest and fastest growing segments in the world,” declared SEAT Chairman Jürgen Stackmann today in the Annual Results Press Presentation. “The SUV is an important pillar in the future corporate strategy and is a major step forward on the road to reaching sustainable profitability for the company,” he added.
Confirmation of the production of a SEAT SUV is a clear sign of the Volkswagen Group’s commitment to the Spanish brand. The new model will achieve a foothold in a growing segment that represents close to one million cars per year in Europe alone – a segment that has increased more than 40 per cent over the past five years, and will continue to grow in the future.
The new SUV will further broaden SEAT’s product range, enabling the brand to maintain its current growth momentum following the successful launch of the Leon family, which is receiving numerous accolades and awards across Europe.
Development of the SUV will continue at the SEAT Technical Centre in Martorell, a unique hub of excellence in southern Europe with more than 900 engineers dedicated to innovation.

Leon beats Ford Focus and BMW 1-Series to claim best Lower-Medium Car award

Leon won the best medium-sized car category at the biggest awards event in the fleet industry, the Fleet News awards. The annual ceremony was held in London on Wednesday 19 March 2014.

The award marks the Leon out as the most outstanding medium-sized family hatchback for fleet users, according to the Fleet News panel of experts.

“The Leon is one of the great all-rounders in the sector with desirable looks, strong residual values and very low running costs.
The new model represents a big leap forward compared to the old car. It’s bang on the fleet button with a range of body styles, good kerbside appeal and a quality interior,”
enthused Stephen Briers, Fleet News Editor-in-Chief.

SEAT UK's Head of Fleet and Business Sales said: “These awards often go to premium manufacturers (BMW and Mercedes Benz won the majority of this year’s awards). This year we beat all of them in what is probably the most important award of the evening. “Winning the best lower-medium car category with Leon is a great accolade for our fleet team and the Brand. It shows that the judges, who are from leasing companies and influencers in the fleet industry, have great confidence in our product and the service our network provides.

“This year we hosted 14 of our most important fleet customers at the event,” said Peter. “That’s a first for us, and they were as genuinely excited about our win as we were.
“We’re seeing a massive growth in true fleet volume this year. In March we sold two and half times more cars than in March 2013. This award will accelerate that growth!
On the night, SEAT was nominated for three awards for the first time in its history:

• Small Car for Ibiza
• Medium Car for Leon
• Estate Car for Leon ST

Tomorrow SEAT will officially release the quickest and most powerful series production car it has ever made: the SEAT Leon Cupra 280.

The Cupra 280 sits at the top of a five-strong family of brand new Cupra models that begins with the 265 PS Leon SC Cupra and ends with the five-door Cupra 280 DSG. Here’s the range at a glance:

Every Leon Cupra completes the benchmark 0-62 mph sprint in less than six seconds, while all manual versions return exceptional 44.1 mpg average fuel consumption.

The drive: stunning performance as standard

Cupra stands for power, performance and dynamics – and the new Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 have all those qualities in abundance. The Cupra 280, with optional DSG transmission, catapults from zero to 62 mph in just 5.7 seconds, or 5.8 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox equipped; every Cupra model has a 155 mph limited top speed.

The 350 Nm maximum torque of both versions spreads from just 1,750 rpm all the way up to 5,300 rpm, guaranteeing impressive pulling power and overtaking flexibility.

Against this, the new Leon Cupra is astonishingly efficient. The average fuel consumption for both power variants is just 44.1 mpg with a manual gearbox equipped, and 42.2 mpg with DSG. This equates to CO2 figures of just 149 g/km and 155 g/km; by comparison the second generation Leon Cupra R with 265 PS emitted 190 g/km CO2.

The engine: cutting edge technology

As a true sports engine, the 2.0 TSI turbo petrol unit of the Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 reacts spontaneously to every movement of the accelerator pedal and is wonderfully high revving. This is paired with a rich and refined sound that is aided and modulated by a standard sound actuator.

The all-new power unit, with its exceptionally responsive turbocharger, is packed with hi- tech and ground-breaking features. The dual-injection system, for example, combines direct injection with manifold injection under partial load, which optimises fuel economy and reduces particulate emissions. Cylinder fill is always in the optimum range: the camshafts are adjustable, with the valve lift system regulating opening on the exhaust side. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head and is part of the intelligent thermal management system. In addition, a new kind of coating on the aluminium pistons and the bearings keeps friction to a minimum.

And like every other Leon in the range, the Cupra efficiency package also includes Start/Stop and Energy Recovery systems.

Key equipment

In the UK, additional standard equipment for the Leon Cupra over and above the FR model (and the aforementioned styling details) includes 18-inch alloy wheels, full-LED headlights, DAB digital radio, SEAT Media System Plus, aluminium front door sill trims with Cupra logo, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights.

The Cupra 280 is distinguishable by its standard 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss black mirror caps, black exterior mouldings and frames, black rear roof spoiler, red brake callipers with Cupra logo, and black interior inserts. Satellite navigation comes as standard with the Cupra 280, too.

Cupra Drive Profile

The Cupra Drive Profile enables the characteristics of the new Leon Cupra to be adapted across a very wide range to meet the individual preferences of the driver. Alongside the Comfort and Sport modes, the Cupra mode was a focal point for the engineers in Martorell. Throttle response is particularly sensitive in this setting, while the DSG
operates in its sportiest shifting mode and the sound actuator accentuates the full tone of the turbocharged engine. DCC dynamic chassis control, progressive steering and the front-axle differential lock also operate at their sportiest settings.

The SEAT Leon Cupra is officially launched tomorrow and available to test drive on Tuesday 4th March 2014 at Pulman SEAT. For more information please go to our website http://www.pulmanseat.co.uk/. Or contact us on 0191 549 2926.
