The brand says corporate and SME sales have risen by 22% year-on-year and this is set to be boosted by the new model, which it says has already seen unprecedented level of interest for fleet test drives, prompting a fleet of vehicles to be assigned exclusively for corporate and SME customer demonstrations.

Fleet benefits of the new model include running costs among the lowest plus a spacious and practical cabin. Volkswagen reveals new Golf GTI Clubsport

Anniversary model launched to mark the 40th birthday of the Golf GTI, featuring outstanding performance and design

This thrilling new model has been unveiled at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, giving visitors a first look at the most powerful production GTI ever. The special edition follows in Volkswagen’s tradition of  marking landmark anniversaries of the GTI with special models.

Prices, specification and key dates have yet to be announced but the model with be available in 3- or 5-door versions, with manual or DSG transmission. It is hoped that the GTI Clubsport will open for ordering in early 2016.

Impressive performance

The GTI Clubsport’s turbocharged direct-injection engine will offer 265PS, resulting in acceleration from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds with the optional DSG tranmission (6.0 seconds in manual).

A boost function increases power output to more than 290PS for a short time (around 10 seconds). This added power is activated simply by kicking down the accelerator. Top speed is around 155mph.

But the GTI Clubsport is surprisingly efficient. With a manual gearbox, consumption is 6.9 l/100km (equivalent to 160g/km CO2). For DSG, the figure is 6.7 l/100km (155 g/km CO2).
New exterior design features

A host of features distinguish the anniversary model from other GTIs. The new edition has a completely new front bumper, new side sills, a new rear diffuser, new multi-part roof spoiler and exclusive forged-alloy wheels. A range of colours will be available, including the Oryx White with black roof shown here.

The side profile of the Golf GTI Clubsport is based on the original GTI version, which was characterised by a wide black trim stripe on the side between the front and rear wheel arches at bumper level. This stripe appears on the side of the anniversary model, paying homage to the 1976 Golf GTI, and is enhanced with the lettering ‘Clubsport’.

Forged 18-inch alloy wheels are standard but optional ‘Bresica’ 19-inch alloy wheels are available, designed especially for the Golf GTI Clubsport. The doors are adorned with high-gloss black mirror caps.

The redesigned roof edge spoiler, which projects above the roof line, was perfected in the wind tunnel and is much larger than its counterpart on the current GTI. There is a narrow air gap between the roof area and the spoiler.

Lower down, the line of the wrap-around splitter of the side line (below the sill) is continued in the large rear diffuser. The redesigned, chrome-plated tailpipes of the twin-pipe exhaust system have been elegantly integrated in the diffuser. The LED rear lights come in dark black-red.

Interior Features

The interior features iconic details essential to every GTI. These include the ergonomic sports seats with tartan fabric upholstery and red top-stitching, golf ball-design gear knob and a black headliner.

The Clubsport also features folding racing bucket seats instead of sport seats. These are part-Alcantara and feature a honeycomb pattern in the area of the backrests and seat cushions; the backrest also incorporates ‘GTI’ lettering.

New trim strips in ‘Honeycomb 40’ design (instrument strip, centre console and doors) give the interior an even more exclusive appearance. Sporty decorative features include Alcantara trim on the gear lever, new lenses on the gear knob, the Alcantara sport steering wheel (with GTI emblem, red seam and 12 o'clock marking) and customised floor mats with red edging.

When the driver and front passenger open the doors, they see the exclusive stainless steel door sill plates with red ‘GTI’ lettering.

SKODA plans further expansion into SUV market

New 7-seat model and a more mainstream Yeti will spearhead Skoda's further expansion into the SUV market

The brand is planning a total of four new SUVs - a more mainstream Yeti, a seven-seater, a BMW X4-style coupe and smaller Juke rival. All of the new models are based on the versatile Volkswagen Group MQB platform but while the others are earmarked for Europe, it's possible that the coupe SUV may only be sold in China.

The all new Skoda Yeti is set for launch in 2018, with the refreshed small form factor SUV boasting more mainstream looks along the lines of the just unveiled Superb. Skoda has opted for a more restrained and conventional look, with a clean front end that boasts split headlights and a clamshell bonnet. The new Skoda Yeti shares much with the new Volkswagen Tiguan that has just been unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It features a Superb-style front end and sharp creases down the sides to differentiate it from its Volkswagen Group stablemate.

SKODA Coupe SUV

Family buyers will be catered for by Skoda's new 7-seat SUV. The upscale model looks very smart with sharp lines and high quality detailing. Following the lead of the Superb saloon, interior space is particularly strong with loads of room in all three rows. The rear seats slide an impressive 18cm allowing owners to prioritise legroom or boot space.

7 Seater SUV

There are also some ideas regarding how the current Skoda models will look and evolve in the future. We'll see the return of twin headlights on 2017 Octavia facelift with the inner lights cleverly integrated into grille to give the Skoda family a more distinctive front-end appearance.

Skoda's SUVs will get the same four headlight treatment, with the driving lights lifted up to sit underneath slim headlights. Square wheel arches also feature across the SUV model line with recessed boot opening at the rear. Skoda's SUV designs are further marked out by clamshell bonnets with the new Yeti and bigger 7-Seat SUV inheriting this feature from the current Yeti.

In terms of engine technology, we expect the latest Volkswagen Group turbocharged petrol and TDI diesel units to feature but both the Skoda Yeti and the 7-seater will feature a new plug-in hybrid powertrain that will debut in the Octavia. Familiar trim levels will feature with the rugged Scout trim used across the range of two and four-wheel-drive models. More road-orientated Sportline models will provide an alternative.

New Volkswagen SUV unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show

The more practical and efficient Tiguan will go on sale in the UK towards the end of this year, with a plug-in hybrid version on the way

VW is claiming much-improved interior space and fuel efficiency gains of up to 25% with its latest Tiguan SUV, which has been unveiled at the Frankfurt show.

The new model is 60mm longer, 30mm wider and 33mm lower than its predecessor - and its wheelbase is up by 77mm, to 2681mm. VW claims rear-seat kneeroom is up by 29mm, thanks to a redesigned split-fold rear seat that offers up 180mm of longitudinal adjustment. The boot capacity is up, too - by 145 litres to 615 litres with the rear seats in place or 1655 litres with them folded down.

The redesigned exterior is fairly conventional in look, with a front and rear-end design inspired by the latest Passat and a chunkier overall profile, thanks to enlarged wheels and the increased size.

The core of the Tiguan’s engine line-up will be EU6-compliant diesel engines. There’s a 114bhp 1.6 and a trio of 2.0-litre units offering 148bhp, 178bhp and 217bhp. Certain markets will get a variety of 1.4-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrols too, but the UK is unlikely to see more than a couple of these at most.

The lower-powered engines get front-wheel drive, while the more potent units have a four-wheel-drive system offering four driving modes. Gearbox choices include a standard six-speed manual and an optional six- or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

All four-wheel drive variants now have 200mm of ground clearance - an additional 11mm over the front-drive models. There’s also an optional Off-Road package that brings a reworked front bumper to increase the approach angle from 18.3 degrees to 25.6 degrees. Depending on the engine, the towing capacity extends to 2500kg.

VW also previewed a Tiguan GTE plug-in petrol-electric hybrid at Frankfurt. It uses the same basic powertrain as the recently introduced Passat GTE, mixing a 154bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 215bhp. It has a range of 575 miles.

Together, they provide the most economical of the new Tiguan models with combined consumption of 149mpg and CO2 emissions of 42g/km - and it can also travel for more than 30 miles in pure electric mode.

SEAT Leon Cross Sport

Seat has shown a high-performance, off-road-focused three-door Leon concept at the Frankfurt motor show

The ride height has been raised to give the Cross Sport 41mm more ground clearance than the standard Leon SC.

The concept is powered by the recently upgraded 286bhp version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine used by the production Leon Cupra. It also features permanent four-wheel drive.

The Cross Sport’s styling is described as like ‘a highly-trained cross-country runner’: more prosaically, it’s a hiked-up Leon with black bumpers and a wild orange hue.

The Seat Leon Cross Sport comes with styling upgrades including gloss black extended wheel arches and sills, larger air intakes, a quadruple exhaust and a rear roof spoiler. It also has two-tone 19in alloy wheels. The Cross Sport also gains roof rails, wheel arch add-ons and restyled bumpers to give it a more rugged appearance, while inside, the car features leather and Alcantara trimmed seats coloured to match the car’s ultra orange exterior – which was first seen on the SEAT 20V20 SUV concept of the 2015 Geneva motor show.

Technical highlights include SEAT’s latest smartphone connect system, with voice recognition and voice activation features, and a built in touchscreen.

The Leon Cross Sport is only intended as a concept for now, with no word on whether it will make it into production.

New Volkswagen Tiguan Range

An all-new version of Volkswagen’s Tiguan compact crossover is expected to debut on 15th September at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show

Volkswagen is preparing to move into the emerging compact performance SUV market with a headlining 300bhp version of its upcoming Tiguan Coupé.

The racy five-seater, conceived and developed by the firm’s in-house R division, is tentatively due to reach UK showrooms in 2018. It is planned to crown the Tiguan Coupé line-up with a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine running a similar tune to that used by the Golf R.

There is large speculation that it will produce up to 280lb ft and come with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, four-wheel drive and an electronic torque vectoring function.

Nothing is official at this stage, but the Tiguan Coupé R is likely to possess straight-line performance comparable with that of the Golf R Estate, which has a claimed 0-62mph time of 5.1sec.

A specially tuned version of the standard Tiguan Coupé’s MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension with reduced ride height and a four-mode adaptive damping system will aim to provide the necessary dynamic traits needed to set the R model apart from the rest of the model’s line-up.

One of three new second-generation Tiguan models, the Tiguan Coupé is planned to go on sale in standard guise in 2017, less than 12 months before the range-topping R model is due to join the line-up.

Included among the standard four-cylinder engine options will be 1.4 and 2.0-litre petrol units, as well as 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesels. Also planned is a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid-propelled GTE model running a similar driveline set-up to that used by the Golf GTE.

The basis for Volkswagen’s first SUV coupé are the same MQB underpinnings as those employed by other second-generation Tiguan models. Sporting its own, distinctive styling, the Tiguan Coupé is described as being “more rakish” than the standard Tiguan, with more acutely angled front and rear screens, a shallower glasshouse and a sloping roofline.

The basic appearance was previewed on the BlueCross Coupé TE shown at the Detroit motor show in January, although the production version is described as being smaller than the show car, with a length of around 4600mm.

Although billed as a coupé, the new Volkswagen will feature a practical five-door body with four conventional front-hinged doors and a one-piece tailgate that can be opened either manually or remotely, via a key fob or a sensor in the rear bumper.

The Tiguan Coupé R is planned to receive a number of upmarket interior appointments, such as an active instrument display, head-up display and a full selection of camera-aided safety features, including an emergency braking function.

Here's an insight into Volkswagen's SUV future

Tiguan (2015) - The standard version of the new Tiguan is the next VW SUV due on sale. It will be shown at Frankfurt before a sales launch later this year.

LWB Tiguan (2016) - A long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan will follow soon after the standard version. It will offer space for seven when it goes on sale next year.

Tiguan Coupé (2017) - The most outlandish Tiguan is a couple of years down the line. High-performance R version is likely a year later.

CrossBlue (2017) - The not-for-Europe CrossBlue is aimed at the US and Chinese markets. It’s due to be built in the US and will sit between the Tiguan and Touareg.

Touareg (2017) - Flagship SUV is due to be replaced in two years’ time. Based on the MLB platform, it promises a lower kerb weight and improved efficiency.

CrossBlue Coupé (2018) - A coupé version of the CrossBlue is on the cards as well and is set to follow a year after the seven-seat standard model.

T-Roc (2018) - First shown in Geneva last year, the Polo-based T-Roc would be a rival to the likes of the Nissan Juke. It is set for production in 2018.

Taigun (TBC) - Up-based entry-level SUV, first shown at the 2013 Sao Paulo motor show, is currently on hold and no date has been set for production
